Pillowcases are a quick and easy sewing project that can add a personal touch to your bedroom décor. Whether you’re looking to coordinate with your bedding or add a pop of color, making your own pillowcases is a fun and rewarding project. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to sew a pillowcase using Model 2, which features a simple cuff detail.

Materials Needed:
– 1 yard of fabric for the main body of the pillowcase
– 1/4 yard of coordinating fabric for the cuff
– Matching thread
– Sewing machine
– Iron and ironing board
– Fabric scissors
– Ruler or measuring tape
– Pins

Instructions:
1. Start by prewashing and ironing your fabric to prevent shrinkage later on.

2. Cut two pieces of fabric for the main body of the pillowcase, each measuring 26 inches by 20 inches. These measurements are for a standard size pillowcase, but you can adjust them as needed for other sizes.

3. Cut one piece of fabric for the cuff, measuring 26 inches by 9 inches.

4. Place the two main body pieces right sides together and pin along the top and side edges. Sew a 1/2 inch seam along these edges, backstitching at the beginning and end to secure the stitches.

5. Press the seam open with an iron.

6. Fold the cuff piece in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Pin along the raw edges and sew a 1/2 inch seam along the long edge, leaving the short ends open.

7. Turn the cuff right side out and press with an iron.

8. With the pillowcase body still wrong side out, slip the cuff over the top edge of the pillowcase, aligning the raw edges. Pin in place.

9. Sew a 1/2 inch seam along the top edge to attach the cuff to the pillowcase body.

10. Press the seam towards the cuff and fold the cuff down over the raw edge of the pillowcase body.

11. Pin the cuff in place and topstitch along the edge of the cuff to secure it to the pillowcase body.

12. Trim any loose threads and give the pillowcase a final press with the iron.

And there you have it – a beautifully finished pillowcase with a stylish cuff detail. Experiment with different fabrics and prints to create a custom look that complements your bedding and adds a personal touch to your bedroom décor. Happy sewing!
